Microwave-enhanced formation of glucose from cellulosic waste

► Novel microwave system has been successfully designed for waste utilisation. ► Using this intensified system for cellulosic waste 30% of glucose was obtained. ► A high selectivity for glucose over other sugars has been observed. ► The optimum conversion temperature was found around 220 °C. ► The system does not require any additives such as base or acid.
