An investigation of hybrid laser-waterjet ablation of silicon substrates

► We introduce a new machining technology using a totally new material removal concept. ► With this concept, material is softened by laser heating and removed by a waterjet. ► The technology can achieve near damage-free machining and micromachining. ► We also present a new hybrid laser-waterjet cutting head design to implement this new concept.
