Effects of zinc on the laser welding of an aluminum alloy and galvanized steel

- We show a new Al-Fe welding mode, laser beam welding with filler powder.
- Filling powder can improve the energy utilization rate in the fusion-brazing process.
- The zinc coated layer can cut down the brazing temperature from 1535.0 °C to 660.4 °C.
- The intermetallic compound layer was made up of Fe2Al5Zn0.4 phase.
- The formation of Fe2Al5Zn0.4 phase is because zinc atoms substitute iron atoms.
