A novel procedure for the mechanical characterization of the uterine cervix during pregnancy

► A new design of the aspiration device enables inherently safe and easy measurement of the stiffness of cervical tissue. ► The new procedure was applied >600 times on 50 women during gestation. ► Representative model equations were determined for non-pregnant, 1st trimester, 2nd trimester, and 3rd trimester cervical tissue.
