Biaxial mechanical modeling of the small intestine

► Planar biaxial testing was conducted on porcine duodenum, jejunum, and ileum tissue. ► Collected data were fitted to averaged anisotropic and isotropic constitutive models. ► Averaged anisotropic models demonstrated the best fit to the experimental data. ► Averaged models were successfully implemented into finite element simulations. ► A FEM simulation of an active capsule in a section of the intestine was performed.
