A precise and practical approach for parameters calibration of a three-dimensional (3-D) shape measurement system based on a fiber-optic interference fringe projection is proposed. Under the non-ideal condition, with lower requirements for the relative locations of each system module, we present an implicit parameter calibration to calibrate the structure parameters simply and rapidly by building the mathematical model, regardless of the environmental disturbances. And then the actual height of a measured object can be determined accurately via the derived phase-height relation. Furthermore, the measurement error model is deduced from the experimental results and the impact of that on the systematic structure parameters is also analyzed thoroughly, which both provide a reference for the optimization of a measurement system and enhance the practical applications concerning the optical profilometry techniques. The proposed method is validated by computer simulations and real data experiments, and a good 3D reconstruction quality is achieved using the proposed calibration system.
