In this paper, auxiliary differential equation finite-difference time domain (ADE-FDTD) is utilized in simulating electromagnetic scattering of cylinder coated with metamaterial. The matematerial's dispersive characteristics are expressed with Drude model. The accuracy of the algorithm is validated by comparing FDTD results of perfectly electric conductive cylinder with analysis results. Influences on bistatic RCS of a metal cylinder are calculated and analyzed with different metamaterial coating thickness, Drude frequencies and collision frequencies. In a wide scattering bistatic angle, metamaterial coating thickness and Drude frequency have great influence on scattering characteristics of metamaterial. The RCS can be reduced by a maximum value of 11.37â¯dB and 9.91â¯dB, respectively. However, collision frequency of metamaterial coating does not have much influence on scattering characteristics as long as it is far less than Drude frequency.
