Stopping speech suppresses the task-irrelevant hand

► We measured corticospinal excitability of the task-irrelevant hand while subjects stopped speech. ► When speech was stopped, the task irrelevant-hand was suppressed. ► The rapid stopping of speech induces global suppression across the motor system.
