Implicit attentional orienting in a target detection task with central cues

► We examine cueing effects in a target detection task with central cues. ► The proportion valid effect is explained by implicit orienting at short SOAs. ► Similar results occur for both arrow cues and circles with directional gaps. ► Spatially-informative cues evoke automatic attention shifts and facilitate learning.
