• We propose a fractional-order model to describe the creep phenomenon of a piezoelectric actuator.
• Simplification of the model results in a double-logarithm creep.
• We develop methods to identify the proposed model.
• The fractional-order creep model is precise and gives insights into the piezoelectric actuator.
This paper deals with creep modeling and identification for the piezoelectric actuator (PEA). Creep is an essential phenomenon when a PEA operates over long periods of time. A fractional-order model is proposed by representing the PEA as resistocaptance, which is a novel approach. The simplified fractional-order PEA model results in a double-logarithmic creep. Identification methods for PEA parameters are presented. Experimental results validate the effectiveness of the proposed fractional-order creep model.
