Breaks and trends in OECD countries' energy-GDP ratios

► All OECD countries had a break in their energy intensity trends over 1960-2009. ► All but two countries have current negative trends, but several trends are recent. ► Energy intensity has inverted-V shape for almost half of the countries. ► The timing at which those peaks occur has little to do with level of development. ► Energy crises influenced the timing of peaks in about two-thirds of the countries with inverted-V energy intensity trends.
