Application of positive matrix factorisation for the source apportionment of heavy metals in sediments: A comparison with a previous factor analysis study

► We conducted PMF method to obtain possible sources of heavy metals in sediments. ► The PMF results are compared with the previously published FA results. ► Three and five sources were resolved with FA and PMF, respectively. ► The PMF method showed a higher source resolution than the previously derived FA model.
