► Synthesis of β-trifluoromethylated ketones from allylic alcohols by an isomerization reaction. ► Detailed study of the reaction parameters and mechanistic insights clearly indicate a strong fluorine effect. ► High level of enantiospecificity was demonstrated in the reaction whereas poor enantioselectivity was achieved so far.
