Two types of lanthanide Schiff base complexes: Synthesis, structure and spectroscopic studies

Two types of lanthanide salen complexes have been obtain. The general formulae of the complexes are [Ln(H2L)3(NO3)3] Ln = La, Eu, Tb - type I and [Ln(H2L)2(NO3)3EtOH]MeOH Ln = Er, Tm - type II, where H2L is N,N′-bis(5-methylsalicylidene)-4-methyl-1,3-phenylenediamine. The structural change is due to a decrease of the ionic radii of the lanthanide ions.58
