Illustration of the electronic influence of coordinated β-diketone type ligands: A kinetic and structural study

A new Re(I) structure is introduced, fac-[Re(CO)3(Hfaa)(Py)] (Py = pyridine), with a distorted octahedral arrangement of ligands surrounding the metal. A kinetic study involving methanol substitution with pyridine, in complexes of the form fac-[Re(CO)3(O,O′-Bid)(CH3OH)], is investigated, yielding fast CH3OH substitution in the following order: fac-[Re(CO)3(Acac)(CH3OH)] > fac-[Re(CO)3(Tfaa)(CH3OH)] > fac-[Re(CO)3(Hfaa)(CH3OH)].
