Solvent effect on heavy metal coordination with thioether ligands: A thermodynamic and theoretical study

The thermodynamic parameters for the complexation of several thioethers with Hg2+, Ag+, Cd2+and Zn2+ ions have been determined in dimethylsulfoxide. The results evidence a great solvent effect on the stability of the species formed and selectivity for a given metal ion. Theoretical calculations are used to interpret experimental data at molecular level.
