Genetic diversity and differentiation in Chimonanthus praecox and Ch. salicifolius (Calycanthaceae) as revealed by inter-simple sequence repeat (ISSR) markers

► We assayed population genetics of Chimonanthus praecox and Chimonanthus salicifolius using ISSR markers. ► Genetic diversity was low within populations of both species. ► High genetic differentiation was detected among populations. ► Our results have significant implications for the conservation of both species in China.
