The Li3PO4/Al electrode: An alternative, efficient cathode for organic light-emitting diodes

► Li3PO4/Al introduced as efficient electron injecting contact for OLEDs and PLEDs. ► Li3PO4/Al is competitive to the LiF/Al benchmark and yields long-lived devices. ► Already 5-7 Å thin Li3PO4 layers capped with Al are optimal for electron injection. ► No charge-transfer doping between the organic semiconductor Alq3 and Li3PO4. ► Interface reaction: formation of dipolar layer and distinct work function lowering.
