► The critical size increases from 5 mm to 7 mm with 5 at. % Al addition. ► The 8 at. % Al-containing glassy alloy possesses a surprising large compressive plastic strain of 47.0% before fracture. ► The Al-doped alloys also exhibit higher specific strength.
