Study on the reaction mechanism and mechanical properties of aluminum matrix composites fabricated in an Al-ZrO2-B system

► The reaction mechanisms of the composites are indicated by using DSC method. ► The amount of Al3Zr blocks decreases with the increases of the B/ZrO2 mole ratio. ► The mechanical properties of the composites depend on the amount of Al3Zr blocks. ► The fracture mechanisms of the composites are affected by the B/ZrO2 mole ratio.
