Formation of Al-Mo intermetallic particle-strengthened aluminum alloys by friction stir processing

► Fine dispersion of Al12Mo particles in Al-Mo alloys was produced in situ by FSP. ► The dispersed Al12Mo particles in FSPed Al-5Mo alloy have an average size ∼200 nm ► The volume fraction of Al12Mo particles in FSPed Al-10Mo alloy is above 0.9. ► The hardness of FSPed Al-10Mo alloy reaches 1.5 GPa.
