A new Sm-Co-type hard magnetic alloy with an amorphous based nanocrystalline microstructure

► Amorphous based nanocrystalline Sm-Co-type ribbons were prepared by melt-spinning. ► Sm-Co-type ribbons containing amorphous phase show excellent coercivity. ► Interactions between amorphous and nanocrystalline phases improve the coercivity. ► High amorphous content can be obtained in this study. ► The amorphous phase behaves ferromagnetism and is stable below 500 °C.
