Synthesis of NiAl intermetallics from cold-extruded samples

► Extruded Ni-Al mixture may fully react from a temperature of 550 °C. ► Heating rate has a strong influence on the reaction pathway the sample will take. ► Using a low heating rate, full conversion to AlNi is possible through solid state diffusion. ► Solid state diffusion yields AlNi whose preferred orientation is linked to Al initial preferred orientation.
