Intermetallic compounds and antiphase domains in Al/Mg compound casting

► Interface of Al/Mg couples prepared by compound casting consists of three layers. ► Al3Mg2 and Al12Mg17 intermetallic compounds are main constituents of the interface. ► A network of antiphase domains is formed in the Al12Mg17 intermetallic compound. ► The size of antiphase domains is dependent on deviation from stoichiometric proportion.
