Hot Deformation Behavior and Microstructure of AZ31-1Sm Alloy Compression at Elevated Temperatures

The hot deformation behavior of AZ31-1Sm alloy and its microstructure evolution were investigated by isothermal axisymmetric hot compression tests at temperatures ranging from 300 to 450 °C and strain rates from 0.01 to 1 s−1. The results show that the steady flow stress increases with increasing of the strain rate or decreasing of the deformation temperature, which can be described by a hyperbolic-sine constitutive equation with the deformation activation energy of 160.8 kJ/mol. AZ31-1Sm alloy is easy to promote the dynamic recrystallization (DRX). The tendency of the dynamic recrystallization enhances at high deformation temperatures and low strain rates. Recrystallization grains size increases with the deformation temperature increasing or strain rate decreasing.
