Low-Temperature Creep Behavior of Commercially Pure Titanium TA2

The creep behavior of commercially pure titanium TA2 at 150 °C (a service temperature of one titanium heat exchanger in purified terephthalic acid production system) was researched. The results of uniaxial tensile creep tests show that the primary creep of TA2 at 150 °C complies with the power law, i.e. ɛ = βta. The creep exhaustion rates at primary stage vary little in the range of 160-200 MPa and 220-240 MPa. The creep exhaustion rates are much higher at low stress levels (200 MPa and lower). The phenomena of creep saturation were observed at the secondary stage at low stress levels, and the time to reach creep saturation shortens with stress decreasing. Therefore, it is derived that the saturation at the secondary stage of creep is related to the rapid creep exhaustion rate at the primary creep stage, and the primary creep is the dominant deformation mode at low stress levels during the low-temperature creep of TA2.
