Monsoon rains, drought periods and soil texture as drivers of soil N2O fluxes - Soil drought turns East Asian temperate deciduous forest soils into temporary and unexpectedly persistent N2O sinks

► We measured N2O fluxes of drought and monsoon undergoing forests in East Asia. ► We investigated the influence of soil texture on N2O production and consumption. ► The N2O balance at the driest site remained negative during the growing season. ► Soil moisture and temperature even drove the N2O sink function.
