Effects of phospholipase A2 and metalloprotease fractions of Russell's viper venom on cytokines and renal hemodynamics in dogs

► Differential effects of phospholipase A2 and metalloprotease on cytokines and renal hemodynamics were studied. ► Both phospholipase A2 and metalloprotease induced proinflammatory cytokine release and leukocytosis. ► Phospholipase A2 caused hypotension and initial decrease followed by increase in renal vascular resistance. ► Metalloprotease caused hypotension with increased renal vascular resistance.
