The role of p38 in irinotecan-induced DNA damage and apoptosis of colon cancer cells

► Irinotecan (CPT-11) shows concentrations-dependent cytotoxicity in SW620 cells. ► Higher concentrations of CPT-11 induce massive p38 activity resulting in mitochondrial caspase-mediated apoptosis. ► Lower concentrations of CPT-11 induce lower but longer lasting p38 activity with suppressed apoptosis.
