Comparative genotoxicity of 3-hydroxyanthranilic acid and anthranilic acid in the presence of a metal cofactor Cu (II) in vitro

► 3-OHAA in the presence of copper could cause single stranded nicks in the DNA. ► 3-OHAA in the presence of metal cofactor copper causes mutagenic effect in TA102. ► The presence of liver S9 detoxifies the mutagenic effect of 3-OHAA and copper. ► AA in the presence of copper does not cause any mutagenic effect. ► Both AA and 3-OHAA do not cause any mutagenic effect by themselves.
