Analysis of laser detection performance based on ultrashort pulse laser

The characteristic of echo from target is one of the most important factors that influence the performance of laser detection system. The Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR), retroreflected power and detecting precision were analyzed in time-domain, and ultrashort pulse laser was introduced to improve the performance of laser detection system. Atmospheric turbulence-induced pulse broadening according to propagation distance and turbulence strength was analyzed and calculated. Furthermore, the pulse broadening results of turbulence and incident angle were compared. The improvement of laser detection system based on ultrashort pulse laser was summarized. The results show that the detection performance was determined by laser width which was induced by atmospheric propagation in close quarters and the angle of incidence in terms of vertical detecting. However, compared to the influence of incident angle, pulse width boarding induced by atmospheric was neglectable. The simulated results show that the SNR and resolution of laser detection system can be improved efficiently by ultrashort pulse laser.
