Synthesis of Sr5SiO4Cl6:Eu3+, NaAlSiO4:Tb3+ and Sr2P2O7:Dy3+ phosphors for solid state lighting applications

Eu3+ activated Sr5SiO4Cl6 phosphor and Sr2P2O7 doped with Dy3+ are synthesized by solid state method and NaAlSiO4 doped with Tb3+ is prepared by a sol–gel method. All the prepared phosphors were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), photoluminescence (PL) properties and CIE color co-ordinates. The emission peaks of Eu3+ activated Sr5SiO4Cl6 phosphor are located at 597 nm and 616 nm corresponding to the 5D0→7F1 and 5D0→7F2 transitions of Eu3+, under near-UV excitation (395 nm). Photoluminescence emission spectra of Sr2P2O7:Dy3+ phosphor shows an excitation at around 354 nm gives emission peaks at 484 nm (blue) and 575 nm (yellow) are ascribed to the typical 4F9/2→6H15/2 and 4F9/2→6H13/2 transitions of Dy3+ respectively. Upon excitation with 379 nm, it is observed that there is a strong emission at around 545 nm corresponding to the 5D4–7F5 transition of Tb3+ in NaAlSiO4 host. CIE color co-ordinates of Sr5SiO4Cl6:Eu3+ phosphors are (x = 0.6825, y = 0.3172), Sr2P2O7:Dy3+ phosphor of color blue were (x = 0.0734, y = 0.1850) and color yellow were (x = 0.4787, y = 0.5202), CIE color co-ordinates of NaAlSiO4 doped with Tb3+ are (x = 0.2801, y = 0.7117). The results indicate that all the prepared phosphors might be promising candidates as blue, green, yellow and red emitting components for potential solid-state lighting application and green lighting technology.
