Role of reactive oxygen species and Ca2Â + dissociation from the myofilaments in determination of Ca2Â + wave propagation in rat cardiac muscle

► Ca2 + waves due to Ca2 + overload and nonuniform contraction were induced. ► Muscle stretch and 10 μmol/L blebbistatin were applied. ► ROS production during stretch modulates Ca2 + waves. ► Ca2 + from the myofilaments modulates Ca2 + waves only due to nonuniform contraction.
