In vitro evaluation of the therapeutic potential of nevirapine in treatment of human thyroid anaplastic carcinoma

► Nevirapine inhibits proliferation of human anaplastic thyroid carcinoma FRO cells. ► Nevirapine up-regulates the mRNA expression of sodium-iodide symporter and TSHR in FRO cells. ► Increase in sodium-iodide symporter mRNA expression has no obvious effect on iodine uptake. ► The therapeutic potential of nevirapine in treatment of ATC needs to be further evaluated in vivo.
