Romantic period of the indigenous technologies of solar grade silicon has long ended. Silicon for solar energy is produced by technology of electronic grade silicon. For example, the development of semiconductor silicon trichlorosilane technology shows how modern science, engineering and technology contribute to improving the quality and reducing the cost of high quality silicon. The possibility of monosilane technology in the production of cheap and high quality silicon for the solar industry is considered.
