Linear transient growth of perturbation energy is studied in co-rotating Taylor-Couette flow of a Bingham fluid. The effects of yield stress on transient growth and structure of the optimal perturbation are mainly considered. For the wide gap case, the peak of the amplitude of optimal perturbation is shifted towards the inner cylinder with increasing yield stress. The anti-lift-up mechanism found in a range of inner cylinder Reynolds number Re1 is substituted by the classical lift-up view as strong yield stress is imposed. While for the narrow gap case, the peak value of the optimal perturbation is shifted towards the outer cylinder as the yield stress is increased, and the lift-up mechanism always exists.
