Incidence and Treatment of Symptomatic Diaphragmatic Hernia After Esophagectomy for Cancer

The incidence of symptomatic diaphragmatic hernia after esophagectomy was 2.5%, with the highest incidence after minimally invasive Ivor Lewis esophagectomy (9.4%) as compared with other procedures. Although prophylactic cruroplasty is now the standard of care in patients undergoing minimally invasive esophagectomy, a significant lower hernia rate was not found in this study.
