Aportes actuales de la resonancia magnética para el manejo del cáncer de próstata

In this review we summarize the most updated evidence with regards to the clinical utility of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the management of the different stages of prostate cancer (PCa). We aim to provide a comprehensive overview focused in the most current international recommendations for the use of MRI in screening, diagnosis, staging and surveillance of PCa. Even though, there is a large body of evidence in the use of this technology, the presence of high quality data is scarce. Care must be taken when incorporating the MRI into practice due to the lack of Level 1 evidence in the different clinical scenarios that MRI may come to use. At this point of its development, the vast majority of the evidence does not support the recommendation of using MRI for screening, staging and surveillance. Notwithstanding, MRI offers to the clinician outstanding anatomic detail of the prostate, being useful in the diagnosis clinically significant PCa.
