Small cell lymphocytic variant of marginal zone lymphoma: A distinct form of marginal zone lymphoma derived from naïve B cells as a cutaneous counterpart to the naïve marginal zone lymphoma of splenic origin

- Marginal zone lymphoma (MZL) is usually derived from a post-germinal center B cell.
- These 11 MZL cases lack plasmacytic features (ex. CD38+ and light chain restriction).
- These cases express CD23 and IgD, in keeping with a naïve B cell origin MZL variant.
- We term this subset naïve small cell lymphocytic marginal zone lymphoma of the skin.
- Longer follow up is needed to ascertain clinical aggressiveness of these lesions.
