Use of citicholine in children with severe visual impairment and assessment with high and low contrast acuity

Citicholine has been known to improve high and low contrast acuity in amblyopic children. Twenty-two children with severe visual impairment at the Al Maktoom School for the Visually Impaired were divided into two groups on the basis of aetiology which was thought to be of central or retina related causes. The children each received 10 intramuscular injections containing 1 g of citicholine. The visual acuity was assessed by using high and low contrast acuity tests. The vision was checked at days 1, 30 and 90. Analysis of the results showed presence of two different trends.
