Treatment of urge urinary incontinence when drug treatment fails

The treatment of patients suffering from overactive bladder complaints normally consists of anticholinergics. When patients are not satisfied with this treatment, other treatment options remain. During the last years, new treatments have become available that are promising and minimally invasive. These treatments among others are intravesical instillations with anticholinergics or intravesical injections with botulinum toxin A. More invasive treatments are posterior tibial nerve stimulation and sacral nerve stimulation. The last option is reconstructive surgery like bladder augmentation. The abovementioned treatments are described.
