Increased phospholipase activity in Helicobacter pylori strains isolated from patients with gastric carcinoma

The infection by H. pylori strains that produce high levels of phospholipase may increase the risk of developing gastric carcinoma. We hypothesise that indirect products of phospholipase activity, such as prostaglandins, leukotrienes and lysophospholipids, may mediate carcinogenesis.
