La Atención Primaria de Salud como eje del sistema público sanitario

The public health system must be aimed at improving its citizen's health as much as possible, using the resources available in an efficient, accessible and equitable way. This cannot be achieved if Primary Health Care is not decisive and thus it must be well provided with resources and its professionals must have high levels of decision making capacity in how to become organized and in how to use the available resources. The health care professional of Primary Health Care must become involved, become committed and report efficient results to society. Their work must be satisfactory and obtain the correct material, professional and human compensation that leads them to increasing quality, warmness and dignity in their work. Things in our health care system cannot continue as they are and require important changes not only in the necessary budget increases for Primary Health Care, which has been abandoned in Spain for years, but also substantial changes in the contract relationship of the professionals with the public health care business of this country.
