Tubulointerstitial damage and progression of renal failure. The present work reviews the mechanisms and close association between glomerular and tubular damage and its relationship to renal functional impairment. In addition, we present an overview of the pathways involved in the progression of tubulointerstitial fibrosis and a brief summary of the treatments used to retard the progression to end-stage renal failure.
