Diagnostic et classification des hypertensions artérielles pulmonaires

The current clinical classification of pulmonary hypertension represents a consensus accommodating our present understanding of pathophysiology and clinical differences or similarities within categories of pulmonary hypertension. This classification also guides the diagnostic approach of pulmonary hypertension. Various investigations are necessary to clarify the category of pulmonary hypertension and establish precise diagnosis. Disease severity is also assessed in order to accurately evaluate patient's prognosis and determine the risk: benefit profiles for various therapeutic options. This article highlights the diagnostic approach to pulmonary hypertension. The current clinical classification of pulmonary hypertension is also discussed, with specific attention to the pulmonary arterial hypertension category.
