Second sphere coordination in anion binding: Synthesis, spectroscopic characterization and single crystal X-ray structure determination of hexaamminecobalt(III) dichloride tetrafluoroborate

The newly synthesized complex salt [Co(NH3)6]Cl2BF4 has been shown to have complex cation, [Co(NH3)6]3+ and mixed anions, two Cl− and one BF4− in the solid state. The anions are involved in a strong networks of hydrogen bonding with the hydrogens of ammine groups i.e., N-H⋯Cl− and N-H⋯F− interactions.
