Beta-decay studies of neutron-rich nuclei produced using projectile fragmentation at the NSCL

The beta-decay properties of neutron-rich nuclides in the vicinity of doubly magic 48Ca, 78Ni, and 132Sn have been measured recently using the beta counting system at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory (NSCL) at Michigan State University. Some of the technical challenges faced by these experiments, including charge-state ambiguities, prompt gamma radiation flash, and presence of beta-decaying isomeric states, are discussed.
