Radiation effects of copper single crystals under stress

The activation energies for the motion of interstitials and vacancies are calculated under stress in copper. The most stable configurations of interstitials are a 0 0 1-split interstitial under 2% z-direction compression and 1 0 0-split interstitial under 2% z-direction elongation. The activation energy for the motion of interstitials perpendicular to the tension is much smaller than that under no stress. This could lead important interpretation of experimental results.
