Preoperative oral coenzyme Q10 therapy in patients undergoing cardiac surgery increases myocardial and cardiac mitochondrial coenzyme Q10 levels, improves mitochondrial efficiency, and increases myocardial tolerance to in vitro hypoxia-reoxygenation stress.
