Severe genu valgum deformity and slipped capital femoral epiphysis with renal osteodystrophy: a report of two cases
چکیده انگلیسی
Renal osteodystrophy (ROD) due to secondary hyperparathyroidism causes various osteoarticular complications. These complications include genu valgum (GV) and varum, slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE), ankle valgum and varum, coxa vara, epiphysiolysis, long-bone bowing, scoliosis, pes equinovarus, tibial procurvatum, osteonecrosis, osteochondritis dissecans, brown tumor, gout, and pathological fracture [1]. GV, in particular, occurs most often in children with chronic renal insufficiency or end-stage renal disease [2]. Renal failure associated with SCFE (RFASCFE) is also commonly observed. Only one study reported simultaneous occurrence of GV and SCFE with ROD. The causal relation between the two conditions, however, was not discussed [1]. We describe two cases of GV combined with capital femoral epiphysis slip resulting from ROD. We address the causal relationship between the two conditions and a therapeutic strategy. The patients and their families were informed that data from the case would be submitted for publication and gave consent.
